If this is your first time booking an appointment with a registered dietitian, you may have some questions. See below for the answers or feel free to contact us if you don't see your question listed on this page.
What is Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)?

Medical Nutrition Therapy or MNT is a nutritional approach to managing medical conditions. It is not about dieting, but rather is about managing your special needs through a healthy approach to lifestyle and eating habits.

What can MNT do for me?

Through Medical Nutrition Therapy, a registered dietitian will work individually to help you:

  • Make nutrition modifications to fit your lifestyle

  • Learn how to read food labels

  • Learn new healthy cooking tips

  • Gain knowledge for meal planning

  • Locate resources

  • Learn new tips for eating out

  • Understand the individualized nutrition therapy necessary to meet your special needs

How long do the individual appointments take?

An initial consultation may take anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. Most follow up appointments generally take 30 to 45 minutes. The individual appointments are tailored to your needs and goals, so appointment times may vary slightly.

What should I bring to my first appointment with the RD?

It is important to make the most out of your appointment time with the RD. In order to do that it is helpful to bring the following items with you to your first appointment:

  • Photo ID

  • Insurance card

  • List of any medications or supplements/vitamins/minerals you are taking currently. Please include both prescriptions and over the counter medications.

  • List of past medical history

  • Food journal for at least 3 days of worth of meal/snacks/beverage intake. (See the forms link for an example)

Do you accept health insurance plans?

Yes, we do! We are currently credentialed with the following health insurance plans:

  • Independence Blue Cross

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Aetna

  • Highmark

  • Cigna

  • Keystone Health Plan East

  • AmeriHealth

  • Personal Choice

  • Independence Administrators

  • Innovation Health

We are in the process of becoming credentialed with more plans, so if you do not see your insurance company listed, check back! It may be accepted shortly. Also, feel free to contact us with your insurance company so we can let you know where we are in the process of getting credentialed with your company.

How much does an appointment cost?

All insurance plans vary, but many companies cover 100% of the cost of an appointment with a licensed registered dietitian. A few companies may charge a small copay, but many do not. This means that your nutrition appointment may be free to you!

It is best to call your insurance company to find out what they cover. Most companies cover at least 6 visits with a registered dietitian each year.

If you do not have health insurance, or choose to pay out of pocket, we currently accept cash, credit cards and checks. Please note any returned checks are subject to a $30 service charge. Please contact us for out of pocket rates.

Where do appointments take place?

We are located at 190 West Germantown Pike, Suite 155 in East Norriton, Pennsylvania.

More locations will be coming soon. We are also available to travel to your office location for one-on-one Medical Nutrition Therapy appointments as well as healthy eating workshops and presentations.
